Effective ways to prepare for the TELC polish exam and materials

How to prepare for the TELC Polish Language B1/B2 exam?

The TELC Polish Language Exam at B1/B2 Level may seem challenging, but with the right approach and consistent work, it is entirely achievable.

The key to success is knowing the exam format, practicing, and staying in daily contact with the language.

Get to know the structure of the exam

The TELC exam consists of four parts: listening, reading, writing (e-mail), and speaking.

What’s important — you don’t need to pass all four parts at once. It’s enough to pass just two of them (e.g., the oral part and the tests) for the exam to be considered passed.

This is great news for those who speak Polish well, but struggle with writing. That’s why TELC is an ideal option for many foreigners living in Poland who want to quickly obtain a certificate required for receiving the European Union resident card without months of preparation.

Daily contact with the language

Watch Polish films with subtitles, listen to podcasts, read articles. And if you want to practice speaking — sign up for our Akademia Vitas conversation club! The meetings take place once a week, in groups, with a teacher and topics based on real exam situations.

Monthly subscription: 160 PLN.

Practice writing emails

Focus on functional types: e-mails to friends, complaints, information requests. Review your texts yourself — for example, using AI tools (like Grammarly with Polish language settings or ChatGPT).

Additionally, you can send your texts to our teacher, who will give you individual feedback. Want to check your progress? Book a one-on-one session with the head TELC examiner and State Certificate Exam in Polish. First, your written text will be evaluated, and then you’ll go through a speaking simulation and receive detailed feedback.

Regular speaking practice is essential. You can do this on popular platforms like Tandem or HelloTalk, where it’s easy to find language exchange partners.

Other popular options include italki or Preply, where you can book sessions with native speakers or Polish teachers.

Additionally, there are internet forums and groups on Reddit that bring together people learning Polish. If you’re looking for a community specifically preparing for the TELC exam, join our Akademia Vitas conversation group on Telegram, where you’ll find speaking partners and exam simulation partners.

Use official TELC materials

For effective preparation, it’s worth using a variety of sources. We recommend both the official materials available at telc.net.pl and textbooks designed specifically for the TELC exam.

One of our recommended resources is a set of exercises developed by Akademia Vitas instructors — Aleksandra Dulko and Anna Kanarek — aimed at preparing for the speaking part of the B1/B2 level exam: “Uczymy się mówić”.

You can also use it independently:

We also recommend a collection of exercises for independent preparation for the TELC exam:

Create a study plan

Organize your study time using apps like Notion, Todoist, or Trello. Even a basic Google Calendar will work — divide your week into theme blocks: Monday — listening, Tuesday — writing, etc. For vocabulary learning, we recommend using Quizlet, Anki, or Wordwall.

Remember, self-study requires discipline, but it gives you a lot of flexibility. If you combine high-quality materials, consistent practice, and a structured plan — the TELC exam is well within your reach.
